Movies in the Park Bring Free Summer Fun to South Sacramento

Summer evenings are made for simple things: a blanket on the grass, kids running around before the movie starts, neighbors waving hello, and families settling in together before their favorite movie.

This summer, Southgate Recreation & Park District is bringing that feeling back with our Movies in the Park series. These free, family-friendly events invite residents to enjoy outdoor movie nights in South Sacramento parks, with games, crafts, sports, and activities before each screening.

The evening starts with the R.E.C. Van. Kids can join in hands-on activities, play games, get creative and burn off some energy before the movie begins at sunset. Families are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, snacks, and anything else they need to enjoy a relaxed night outside.

Each Movie in the Park event brings the fun to a different neighborhood, making it easier for families across the District to join in close to home. One week, the R.E.C. Van may be rolling into Larry Gury Community Park. Another night, families may be gathering at Bowling Green Park, Perry Avenue Park, Norman S. Waters Park, or Don & Brenda Nottoli Community Park!

For generations, Southgate parks have been places where families come together, children make memories, and summer traditions continue. These movie nights carry that same spirit forward, one park, one blanket, and one shared screen at a time.
