What is Southgate Recreation & Park District?

Southgate Recreation & Park District (SRPD) is an independent special district as authorized through California State Public Resources Code Section 5780 in 1956, governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors. It is a local government agency established to serve the residents of South Sacramento.

For over fifty years Southgate Recreation & Park District has been acquiring and developing parks and recreational facilities. The District encompasses 45 square miles and includes 47 parks, 11 community centers and other facilities, 2 aquatic facilities, WildHawk Golf Club and many trails, parkways, open space areas and landscape corridors while creating community for area residents. The District’s primary goal and its public charge is to provide recreation and park services to the 120,000 residents it serves. We employ professional management and staff who manage the diverse services and facilities for the South Sacramento community.

Over the next twenty years we expect to add approximately 500 acres of park land and green space as new subdivision development occurs. Our strong tradition of Parks, Programs & Partnerships will continue to guide us, enabling us to continue serving the park and recreation needs of our socially, economically and culturally diverse community.
