Special Interest Classes

Introduction to Karate

Students are taught the basics of karate, including punching, blocking and kicking techniques.

Kid Kicks

This class is taught in a fun and games format. Children will learn the basics of blocking, punching and kicking. Children are taught in a fun, positive manner so they can enjoy martial arts while learning valuable life skills. A $39 uniform fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of class.

Cerezo’s Martial Arts

This class is taught in a traditional format, teaching the basics of karate and jiu-jitsu. Children will learn the basics of blocking, punching and kicking with an emphasis on self-defense and bully prevention. A $39 uniform fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of class.

Camps

Spring Break Camp

Are you looking for somewhere fun for your kids to hang out during Spring Break? SRPD Break Camp at Pat O’ Brien Community Center is for you! We offer an action-packed program that is filled with games, crafts, fitness, along with math, science, reading, history and nutritional education. Morning snacks and afternoon snacks are provided daily. Participants must bring their own lunches from home each day. This program is open to children ages 5 – 12. Teens ages 13 – 15 can register to be a Junior Recreation Leader and learn what it takes to be a Recreation Leader.

Summer Break Camp

Southgate offers camp opportunities for children ages 5- 12. Camps are operated at SRPD Community Centers, Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. We offer healthy morning and afternoon snacks, arts & crafts, games, team building, STEM activities and much more. Each day, your child will be playing in the park and learning new skills in music and meditation. EGUSD will provide lunch each day through the Summer Lunch Program. For further information regarding this program, please feel free to call at (916) 422-7610 ext. 12. We look forward to seeing your child in camp! Children must wear closed-toed shoes and bring a ready-to-eat lunch that does not require use of a microwave.

Youth Sports

Itty Bitty Sports

The Itty-Bitty Sports Program is for ages 3-5 and their parents. This is a parent participation program, where the children and their parents move from station to station learning the fundamentals required for each sport. With the help of trained instructors, this program builds confidence, motor skills and offers a positive early experience to sports. This is a fun way to spend quality time with your child and it’s a noncompetitive program. Each registered child will receive a t-shirt on the first day of class and a certificate of completion on the last day of class.

Jr. Giants

Junior Giants League is open to boys and girls, ages 5-13. Players will receive all necessary equipment to play, baseball/softball hat and shirt. Junior Giants is a non-competitive, skill-based baseball/softball program, rules are loose and geared towards beginners. Score is not kept, games are self-officiated, and the program centers around player success and experience, rather than the final score. Register here beginning April 1!

Jr. Chomps Basketball

Youth basketball camp is for children ages 9-11 years old. We are looking for youth who are interested in the opportunity to enhance their basketball skills. This program is under the direction of the Southgate Staff. Instructors will give hands-on instruction in all areas of basketball including shooting, passing, ball handling, defense and teamwork. This program takes place at Jose Rizal Community Center.  Join us for an exciting and enriching Youth Basketball Camp, tailored for children aged 9 to 11! This camp is perfect for young athletes eager to enhance their basketball skills under the guidance of staff. Staff will provide hands-on training in every aspect of the game, including shooting, passing, ball handling, defense and teamwork. The program will be held at Jose P. Rizal Community Center, offering a fantastic environment for learning and fun. Don’t miss this opportunity to elevate your game and make new friends!

Jr. Chomps All Sport

Introducing Jr. Chomps All Sport – an exciting and dynamic experience for children aged 6 to 9! This engaging program offers a fantastic introduction to the basic skills and drills of basketball, soccer, baseball, and football. Each week, enthusiastic staff will guide your child through the fundamentals of each sport, helping to build confidence, foster teamwork, and create a positive and enjoyable sporting experience. Be sure to have your child wear comfortable tennis shoes for all the action at Don & Brenda Nottoli Community Park. Join us for a season of fun, learning, and new friendships!

NFL Flag Football

Flag Football teaches boys and girls ages 5-14 the fundamentals of football, good sportsmanship and teamwork. All players will receive an NFL Flag Football reversible jersey, mouthpiece, certificate of participation and a trophy. Practices will take place during the week and games will be played on Saturdays.  League runs from August – November.  All games will be played at Nottoli Park.

Volleyball Camp – Beginner

Experience the thrill of volleyball at youth Volleyball Camp, where fun meets learning in an action-packed program designed for beginners! Our expert staff will provide comprehensive instruction on techniques, drills, teamwork, and sportsmanship, ensuring each young athlete develops a strong foundation in the game. With plenty of exciting gameplay, your child will enhance their skills while enjoying the camaraderie of a team environment. Please ensure your child comes prepared with appropriate clothing, a water bottle, comfortable athletic shoes, and knee pads. Join us at Jose P. Rizal Community Center for a memorable and enriching volleyball experience!

Volleyball Camp – Intermediate

Dive into the excitement of youth Volleyball Camp, where intermediate players can elevate their game in a dynamic and fun environment! This program is tailored for those with some volleyball experience and focuses on refining techniques, advanced drills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Dedicated staff will help each athlete enhance their skills and tactical understanding through engaging and competitive gameplay. Ensure your child is prepared with appropriate clothing, a water bottle, comfortable athletic shoes, and knee pads. Join us at Jose P. Rizal Community Center  for an unforgettable volleyball journey that takes your skills to the next level!

Teens

The Gator Club Teen Program

The Gator Club is a community resource teen program that provides a safe environment for participants currently enrolled in grades 7th-12th for the academic year. We are within walking distance of T.R. Smedberg Middle School and Sheldon High School. Teens can enjoy cool amenities such as homework assistance, outside sports activities, an open gym for basketball or volleyball, video games and more! This is a drop-in program with a fee of only $5! Once a month we host a Friday night event. Friday night events are open to both members of the program and non-members starting at $5, fees may vary depending on event. The last day of program is 5/30, The Gator Club will return during the academic year in mid-August.
