Larry Gury Community Park, Phase 2

The construction of Larry Gury Community Park, Phase 2 project began in January 2024 and was finally completed this summer 2025. The developed community park includes a total of approximately 22 acres.

Phase 1, completed in 2019, included 6 acres with a large open field, perimeter exercise stations, large playground, shade structure with picnic tables & BBQ’s, open picnic area, adult exercise area, and a lighted full basketball court. Phase 2 includes a 15-acre joint use storm water detention basin for Laguna Creek with lighted soccer fields, a restroom building, a perimeter trail and a paved multi-use trail that will also serve as a maintenance road.

This is the District’s largest park totaling 73 acres of which 51 acres are open space.

The multiuse trail extends from Carmencita Road to Wingspan Drive along Laguna Creek. Recreational elements such as sports field lighting, benches, picnic tables, wayfinding and interpretive signage were also part of the project.

The Larry Gury Community Park had a grand opening on November 15, 2025.

Hardester Park Pickleball and Tennis Court Renovation Project

The District completed renovation of the tennis courts at Hardester Park in July 2025 which enhanced playing conditions and added dedicated courts for pickleball on the north court with four striped courts and tennis on the south court. They have been furnished with new pickleball nets and tennis nets. This is now the second location in the District to have outdoor pickleball courts to help fill the demand for dedicated courts.

Olde Florintown Park Improvements

The Olde Florintown Park Improvements project got underway in mid-September. This phase addressed accessibility with improved concrete walkways, playground ramps, and benches in the park as well as a new basketball court surface, striping and backboards. This phase of the project is supported by a grant from Sacramento County as part of their Neighborhood Improvement Initiative. Future phases, planned for spring 2026, of the project will address the park restroom and add upgraded lighting to the basketball court. Those improvements are supported by grants from the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency Community Development Block Grant Program.

Fruitridge Community Park Expansion And Renovation Project

Fruitridge Community Park has been part of the District since 1984, but was originally constructed in 1980. Over the decades, the District continuously worked to expand the facilities and offerings serving the community such as adding the swim center, expanding the community center, adding the Gerry Green HeadStart Facility, and building out the park in phases. This history prepared us for the current project, which broke ground in spring 2025. The project completes the community park adding 1.5 acres of new land to the park and improving access from surrounding neighborhoods.

Major strides have been made so far this year with completion of substantial grading, underground work, installation of the north and south parking lots as well as asphalt for the basketball and futsal courts (a form of soccer played on hard surfaces) and many new concrete walkways within the park.

As fall and winter are upon us, work will transition to irrigation and landscaping as well as installation of planned park features. Future visitors can look forward to soccer fields, lighted futsal and basketball courts, shaded picnic areas, a walking path with exercise stations, themed plant gardens, a community garden, renovated playground, and a game area with table games and table tennis. In spring 2026, several artists will get to work on an assortment of murals to beautify the park and community center, along with improvements to the swim center including a new deck, new pool mechanical equipment, lockers, and a shade structure with seating to keep you cool from the sun.

The project is made possible through Proposition 68 with funding from the Cultural, Community and Natural Resources Program and the Statewide Park Development and Revitalization Program of 2020, supported by the California Natural Resources Agency and California State Parks. While the park is not yet open to the public, it is on track to welcome the community in summer 2026 with a wide range of new amenities and improvements.

Jimmie R. Yee Park Improvement Project

Construction of the project started in September 2025. The project included demolition, grading, concrete paving and curbing, landscaping, installation of two shade structures in the playground and an adult exercise area with a shade structure. This new adult exercise area will provide free, accessible, and inclusive fitness that will benefit the community. The shade will allow longer and more frequent use of the playground and exercise area in addition to providing more protection from sun.
