Summer in South Sacramento has a way of bringing people outside! 🌳

Kids look for room to run. Families start circling dates on the calendar. Parks fill with the sound of games, music, movie nights, and neighbors catching up after the heat of the day fades.

This year, Southgate Recreation & Park District invites you to be part of a season that keeps our community moving. The 2026 Summer Events calendar brings together free family-friendly events, cultural celebrations, aquatic fun, neighborhood gatherings, and park activities across the District.

The R.E.C. Van will roll from park to park with FREE games, crafts, sports, and hands-on activities for kids. Movie in the Park nights will turn local parks into outdoor theaters, with families spreading out blankets and chairs staying late for a movie under the sky. At Christine Thompson Aquatic Center, summer continues with Recreation Swim Season Float-In Movie Nights, Float for the Fourth, World’s Largest Swim Lesson & Southgate Safety Day, and Chomps and Friends Movie Night!

The season also carries traditions that feel deeply connected to South Sacramento. Filipino Fiesta returns to Woody Hampton Park and Jose P. Rizal Community Center with culture, food, entertainment, and community pride. The Strawberry Festival brings families to the Florin Historical Museum for vendors, activities, raffles, and fresh strawberries. In August, National Night Out brings neighbors and local partners together at Florin Creek Park for an evening of connection, safety, and community care.

As the District celebrates 70 Years in Motion, these events remind us that recreation is not only something we attend. It is something we build together, year after year, in the parks, pools, and community spaces we share.
