Winter gives our community a chance to slow down, gather close, and look ahead to the season to come. Then, little by little, spring begins to arrive.

Tables fill with treasures, parks brighten as families start to return, the pool comes alive again, and familiar community traditions return. At Southgate Recreation & Park District, this Winter/Spring season is filled with the kinds of moments that remind us why generations of families have continued to gather here.

Start the season at the Spring Community Yard Sale, where one person’s spring cleaning becomes another person’s great find, and a parking lot turns into a morning full of conversation, bargain hunting, and neighborhood connection. At the Community E-Waste Event, residents can clear out old electronics and take part in a simple act of community care that helps protect the future we all share.

As spring settles in, family favorites begin to take center stage. Bunny Breakfast and Eggs Galore & More brings together a FREE egg hunt, breakfast ($20 per family of 4 or $5 per person), crafts, games, and the joy of a morning built for children and families. Soon after, the Underwater Egg Hunt adds a Southgate twist to the season, sending kids into the pool for a fun-filled afternoon of egg hunting in the water, and arts and crafts at Christine Thompson Aquatic Center.

The season also makes room for keepsakes that last long after the day is over. Pictures in the Park offers families a chance to step outdoors and capture the moments they want to hold onto for years to come. And for those looking ahead to summer, Swim Lessons Evaluation Days help families find the right swim lesson level while giving children an early step toward confidence and water safety.

As the District continues its Road to 70 Years, these events reflect what has always mattered most: places where neighbors gather, families making memories, and community that keeps growing.
