Join us at Christine Thompson Aquatic Center from 4:30pm–8pm on Thursday, June 19, 2025 for our annual World’s Largest Swim Lesson™—a global water-safety initiative that unites hundreds of pools across six continents. This year, we’re excited to go beyond the lesson with new interactive safety demos and booths!
All participants will enjoy the same thirty-minute swim lesson at the same time beginning at 4:30pm in the pool. The lesson will be exciting and engaging on the topic of aquatic safety making learning both fun and interactive.

Event Highlights
- ✅ Free 30-Minute Group Swim Lesson – Everyone in the pool learning essential water-competency skills together—a hallmark of WLSL events
- 🆘 Pediatric & Dog CPR Demonstrations – Learn life-saving techniques for kids AND pets.
- ⛑️ Safety Topic Booths – Featuring chill zones like “Be Water Aware,” supervised floatation, rescue protocols, poolside first aid, and hazard awareness.
Global & National Context
The World’s Largest Swim Lesson™ is a record-setting global event launched in 2010 by the World Waterpark Association. Over 383,000 participants in 53 countries have taken part to spread the message that “Swimming Lessons Save Lives” Sun‑N‑Fun Lagoon in Florida still holds the Guinness record with 1,308 simultaneous swimmers
Note: Nationally, the 2025 WLSL takes place June 26, but Southgate is proud to host our local event a week earlier for community convenience.
Why It Matters
Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for U.S. children ages 1–4. Formal swim lessons can reduce drowning risk by up to 88%. Help us spread awareness, empowerment, and lifesaving skills.
