The Pat O’Brien Community Center Book Exchange Opens with a Celebration of Community and Creativity

On April 16, the Pat O’Brien Community Center Book Exchange officially opened its doors, welcoming neighbors to a space where books—and stories—are meant to be shared freely. Built on a “take a book, leave a book” philosophy, the exchange is already becoming a place where people of all ages connect through the simple joy of reading.

There’s no membership, no checkout process, and no cost. Whether you’re dropping off books you’ve finished or looking to discover something new, the exchange is open to all. It’s more than just a bookshelf—it’s a small but meaningful way to build community, one story at a time.

Adding to its charm is a striking mural by local artist Madelyne Templeton. Her vibrant artwork wraps the structure in color and imagination, turning the book exchange into both a visual landmark and a celebration of creativity.

Monday–Friday: 7 a.m.–6 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m.–1 p.m.

Spring (March–May)
Monday–Friday: 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m.–1 p.m.

Summer (June–August)
Monday–Friday: 7 a.m.–8 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m.–1 p.m.

Fall (September–November)
Monday–Friday: 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m.–1 p.m.

*Saturday hours will be based on the community center being open.
