For nearly seven decades, families across South Sacramento have shared moments that become part of their own Southgate story; birthday parties in community centers, first swim lessons, neighborhood festivals, and dances that turn ordinary evenings into lifetime memories. As we continue along this tradition of creating memories in 2026, Once Upon A Dance brings that tradition to life once again, inviting families to step into a night woven with wonder, imagination, and togetherness.

From the moment you arrive, it feels like you’ve walked straight into a storybook. Soft lights glow, familiar fairytale motifs decorate the room, and music fills the air with that unmistakable sense of celebration. Children ages 2–17 arrive dressed in their favorite outfits (sometimes sparkling, sometimes silly) and they’re joined by the adults who help shape their world: parents, guardians, grandparents, aunties, uncles, and family friends who step onto the dance floor right beside them.

Throughout the evening, families move between dancing, laughing, and sharing small moments that become big memories. Classic fairytale characters and enchanted-forest touches set the scene, creating a space where imagination doesn’t just inspire the theme, it also inspires the feeling. Meanwhile, music keeps the dance floor full, and light refreshments offer the perfect pause between songs.

A photographer is on-site to capture the magic as it unfolds, offering keepsake images that families can look back on for years to come. It’s the kind of night that becomes part of a family’s story just as thousands of Southgate memories have over the last 70 years!
